Earth Hour

Earth Hour is a global event created to symbolize that each one of us, working together, can make a difference on climate change.

It was started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia. participant turn off all non-essential lights for one hour to make their stand against climate change.

In 2008 in Earth Hour was held internationally. with 35 countries around the world participating as official flagship cities and over 400 cities also supporting. Earth Hour 2008 was celebrated on all seven continents.

In March 28 2009 8:30 pm hundreds of millions took a stand around the world:

  • 4,100 cities, towns and municipalities cities, towns and municipalities went dark
  • 100s of millions of adults participated
  • 1,059 Major icons went dark including the Sphinx and Pyramids at Giza, Rome’s Coliseum, and the Eiffel Tower

Earth Hour 2010 outcomes

  • Reach over 1 billion people around the world in more than 5,000 cities
  • Involve communities in over 6,000 cities towns and municipalities and engage mass audiences
  • Provide a visual mandate and present a voice from the people to Global Governments to make real change
